The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the top-rated late night program. It was even recently highlighted in CBS parent company Paramount’s quarterly report as a significant part of its most profitable division. Paramount’s streaming services are bleeding cash, the film division barely makes money and the company is saddled with debt. Holding it all together is the TV division, of which Colbert is one of the most recognizable figures. And yet Paramount canceled the Late Show for “financial” reasons and not because Colbert recently criticized Paramount over its decision to settle Trump’s lawsuit with 60 Minutes for $16 million in cash to Trump’s presidential library.
